Due to the added weight and performance of this bike I included a third rear disk brake to ensure adequate stopping power. The option allows me to use it, in addition to the recovery electric braking as a means of slowing without sacrificing momentum for some conditions but when combined with the doubled cantilever brakes will bring the bike to a quick halt.

Wide range shifting

4:1 top end gearing and I also go as low as 14:15 for the low end. I live in very mountainous terrain so I need the wide range option for these conditions to handle the heavier bike bike I have no problem climbing and operating the bike like a normal machine even with no available charge. I would install a different gear ratio combination for flat land conditions as the low end is not as needed and the top end could even be higher. What I find is not needed with electric bikes is as many gears because the electric motors eliminate the need for so many incremental and overlapping shift options. So in this model I have de-rated a 21 speed to a 15 speed to accommodate the rear hub motor but I have an even wider range than the original set.
