Yeah, but what about RIGHT NOW?

Long story short, I was having a conversation about alternative fuels, etc., and the question came up, "Yeah, but all that is 5, 10, 20 or more years down the line. What about right NOW? What can I do TODAY?".

Fair question.

Any takers?

A basic permanent WVO conversion takes me about half a day. is that 'right now' enough for you?

I ran that by him, but he stammered about how that would invalidate the warranty on his car.

I think the problem is that people want a "painless" solution, so rather than argue with them I'm trying to collect "right now" ideas that don't cause too much adjustment....and hopefully lead to bigger changes down the line.

My suggestions were the standard "REDUCE, re-use, and re-fucking-cycle" and pointed out that almost all packaging is now recyclable.

I then told him to sign up for his local Freecycle, pick one day a week to NOT drive (I get arguments against public transit and even car-pooling), compost all organic waste, eat smart/eat fresh/eat local as much as possible, weather-proof house/apartment, trade in the large car for something smaller (and LIGHTER, since it uses less gas), replace the old lightbulbs with energy-efficient bulbs, and all that sort of thing. Told him to ride his bike, but got "the look" in return.

But this tribe isn't about all those things, only alternative fuels, so while I'm interested in all that (and more), I'm focusing at the moment on other fuel options.

So....anyone else have any ideas I can pass along? I'm afraid I'm tapped out.
